United State Vice-President Kamala Harris has thanked South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa for his leadership on the continent.
The two met in Washington DC on Friday morning ahead of scheduled talks with President Joe Biden.
"I can not emphasise enough how important the relationship between our countries is to people of the United States, both in terms of our security and our prosperity," Vice-President Harris stated.
Earlier, Mr Ramaphosa said that his visit to the United State was about strengthening United State-South Africa ties.
He also said that the United State plays a "key role" on ensuring security in Africa, the AFP news agency reports.
