The head of the plants Ukrainian operators, Petro Kotin of Enerhoatom, has warned that radiation can be released locally if missiles hit the fuel stored beside the reactors.
"As a result of periodic shelling, the infrastructure of the station has been damaged, there would be hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substances, and the fire hazard is high," Enerhoatom said on Telegram.
Local officials have also saying they reported that Russian artillery is firing at Ukrainian towns across the Dnipro river from the plant.
Also on Sunday, the Ukrainian army shelled a factory in the Russian-occupied town of Nova Kakhovka in Kherson. Serhiy Khlan, a senior Ukrainian official in the region, said Russian militaries were using it as a military base.
