Diplomats due in Burkina Faso in wake of coup

A delegation from the West African regional body Ecowas is due to arrive in Burkina Faso after trying helping restore calm following the country's second coup this year 2022.

On Sunday, the military leader who had been in power for eight months formally resigned - two days after being toppled by a rival faction occured.

Ecowas has called on the new military leadership by led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré - to respect an earlier agreement to hold the next elections by July 2024.

Burkina Faso has seen a dramatic increase in attacks by jihadist groups.

The growing insecurity played a big key role in both coups.

After seizing power, Capt Traoré said the country faced an emergency in every sector including defence and others.
